What is Coaching?

Coaching is an ongoing series of conversations, usually by phone, where the coach helps the client to keep focused on important goals. Coaching offers focus, guidance and accountability, keeping you on track toward your dreams and goals.

Coaching will help you improve your performance and develop solutions to whatever is holding you back. During coaching you’ll learn to:

  • Clarify your goals and priorities
  • Identify your personal values
  • Address barriers to progress
  • Spend your time in a way that achieves your goals and supports your priorities
  • Manage your time and relationships more effectively.

Coaching is based on the idea that solutions to achieving your fullest potential reside within YOU. A coach will help you understand your own values and personal motivators. Through coaching you will explore what matters to you most, draw on the strengths you already have, and build new skills through guided practice. Your coach provides nonjudgmental guidance, feedback and support as you move toward your goals.

Coaching is NOT:

Coaching is not therapy. Therapy focuses on your history. Coaching focuses on your future. Coaching assumes that you are already terrific, and fully capable of changing what you don’t like in your life.

Coaching is not consulting. A good consultant will find out where you want to go and tell you how to get there, perhaps even doing the work necessary to get you there. PSG does offer consulting services, but when offering coaching we assume that you already know the answers. Rather than giving direct advice a coach asks the right questions to help you make your own decisions.

Coaching is difficult to describe. Each person’s experience is different. A free sample coaching session will help define how you can best benefit from coaching.
